Aziz Akhannouch, Head of Government and President of the Municipal Council of Agadir, accompanied by Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Said Amzazi, Wali of the Souss-Massa region, and Karim Achengli, President of the Souss-Massa Regional Council, attended, on Wednesday evening, the first presentation of the cultural initiative “Nostalgia.. Yesterday’s Emotions”, at the archaeological site “Agadir Oufella”.
The “Nostalgia… Yesterday’s Emotion” initiative, launched by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in July 2023, aims to “restore the prestige of historical sites in Morocco, through a historical representation that simulates the previous civilizations that inhabited them, with the aim of bringing citizens and foreign visitors closer to learning about their history.”
The organizers pointed out that “this show aims to use theatrical art to introduce stories related to the history of the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella site, by involving artists from the Souss region.”
The organizers of the initiative stated that “the historical presentation dealt with the main stages that shaped the history of the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella and the Souss-Massa region in general. The narrative began with the Portuguese occupation and the establishment of the fishing station ‘João Lopes de Sequeira’, followed by the fierce resistance of the region’s inhabitants and the attack on the station and its subsequent sale to the Portuguese king ‘Dom Manuel’.”
“The construction of the Kasbah during the Saadian period and its development during the Alaouite period until today were also explored, in addition to addressing the spiritual dimension of the place, especially through the characters of ‘Lalla Yamina’ and ‘Abdullah Agnaou’, whose shrines are located in the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella,” the same source added.
It is noteworthy that the cultural initiative “Nostalgia.. Yesterday’s Emotion” shows will continue at the archaeological site “Agadir Oufella” until July 28, starting at 8 pm, with 3 sessions per day. These shows, which aim to shed light in an innovative way on Moroccan historical and archaeological sites, have previously been held in a number of sites in the cities of Marrakech, Chefchaouen, Rabat, Casablanca and Tangier.
