Through three executive orders signed this Thursday, February 15, 2024, President Daniel Noboa ratified agreements with the United States and China.

Decree 164 ratifies the agreement of the Government of Ecuador and the United States regarding the Statute of Forces.

The agreement was signed in October 2023 between the then Foreign Minister Gustavo Manrique and the United States Ambassador, Michael Fitzpatrick, and establishes 14 articles.

In the document signed the previous year it establishes that the agreement will apply to the United States military and civilian personnel and US contractors who may be temporarily present in the territory of Ecuador.

Apply the relation to various activitiesincluding ship visits, training, exercises, humanitarian activities, cooperation activities, among others.

The second decree signed by Noboa this Thursday ratifies an agreement between these two countries regarding operations against activities illicit transnational maritime.

The agreement with the United States, also signed during the Guillermo Lasso government, seeks to carry out joint operations against illicit transnational maritime activities, including drug trafficking, migrantsweapons of mass destruction and illegal fishing.

While in decree 166 the entire content was ratified by FTA between Ecuador and China.
