Jaron Ennis Threatens Manny Pacquiao: I Don’t Care As Long As I’m Undisputed Champion/BoxinG Scene
Manny Pacquiao is reportedly set to make his comeback, at the age of 43, to fight current WBC titleholder Mario Barrios. Pacquiao has not fought since losing his title to Yordenis Ugas in 2021, but he will be making his first fight on the world stage.
The WBC’s decision to allow Pacquiao to fight for his belt has drawn criticism from many quarters, and now Ennis has weighed in. Ennis recently put on a dominant performance against challenger David Avanesyan, with his corner pulling his opponent out after five rounds due to damage to Avanesyan’s face.
Ennis then revealed his plans after the contest to unify the division, naming Terence Crawford as his preferred opponent. Ennis is unsure how Pacquiao will be given a shot at the belt, but he insists he is not deterred – as long as the great fighter does not go beyond his path to becoming undisputed champion. “I don’t know how Pacquiao is going to come back and get a world title shot,” Ennis told Fight Hub TV.
”But I really don’t care, as long as I can get all the other belts and be able to unify them and be the undisputed champion. Then I really don’t care what happens. I think it’s crazy that he’s coming back. I mean, it’s a great name to have on your resume. As long as he doesn’t get in my way. If he gets the belt, he gets it – I don’t care,” he said.
