Nino Nakano is the Japanese’s favorite tsundere: Kudasai

In a recent investigation conducted by Japanese media Souls! Souls!, the results of the popularity of tsundere characters in the anime industry have been revealed. Following the tradition of the previous year, the survey entitled “What is your favorite tsundere character?” collected the opinions of readers, and the results do not disappoint.

The survey was carried out in the period from 27 December to 3 January. To commemorate the achievements, it is interesting to note that January 11 has been designated as “Salt Day (塩の日)” in Japan. It dates back to the theory that on the same day in 1569, the warlord Uesugi Kenshin sent salt to save the people of the territory from his rival, Takeda Shingen. From this episode comes the proverb “sending salt to the enemy”. In recent years, the cold and hostile way of treating others has been called “salty treatment”.

The attribute known as tsunderein which a prickly character sometimes becomes tender and cute, has proven to be extremely popular among anime fans. This trait, which refers to a character who initially displays a hostile attitude but over time reveals a softer personality, has fascinated audiences. The survey results not only indicate a continued appreciation for these types of characters, but also reveal a deep interest and connection with them.
