Police received a report of the robbery around 7.15pm. According to a police spokesperson, the offender threatened a cashier with a knife who then had to hand over the money.
After the robbery, the perpetrator escaped from the supermarket and made off with an unknown amount of money. He’s still on the run. Police are looking for the perpetrator and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Fifth robbery
It is the fifth robbery at an Amsterdam supermarket in more than a week. On January 12, a Lidl branch in Aalbersestraat in Amsterdam Nieuw-West was robbed and the next day the target was an Albert Heijn in Overtoom. On Tuesday morning, two robbers threatened an employee of a supermarket in the east of Amsterdam with a gun. On Tuesday evening there was a robbery at an Albert Heijn shop on Lambertus Zijlplein in Nieuw-West.
