The children’s television channel Nickelodeon employed or collaborated with five men accused of abusing minors, as well as two others accused of pedophilia, court records to which the Daily Mail had access this Wednesday show.
According to the newspaper, Nickelodeon was “infiltrated by sexual predators who saw the power that the channel gave them as a way to get closer to their victims.” Although only two of the men appear in the new HBO documentary ‘Quiet on set’, about the alleged abuse of minors that took place there for years, the files show that the involvement of all those accused in the channel was much greater. .
Among the pedophiles involved is Jason Handy, a Nickelodeon production assistant who had sexual contact with a nine-year-old girl and described himself as “a full-blown pedophile.” Also Ezell Channel, who was hired as a production assistant at the channel after a conviction for sexual crimes against a minor, and was later arrested again for sexually assaulting a teenager in the studio.
Joby Harte, who appeared in several episodes of the show ‘True Jackson’, was found guilty of sexually abusing Disney actress Ricky Garcia. Cody Longo, star of the Nickelodeon series ‘Reach for a Star’, was accused of sexual assault of a nine-year-old minor. Brian Peck, actor, abused star Drake Bell when he was 15 years old. Years later, Bell himself was convicted of distributing child pornography and abusing a minor.
On the other hand, John Kricfalusi, creator of the Ren and Stimpy show, was accused of sexual misconduct with two teenage girls he employed. And Marty Weiss, a talent manager for top Nickelodeon shows such as iCarly, was convicted of “lewd acts” with one of his clients, a 12-year-old boy.
Gabe Hoffman, a child safety activist, said that even today “convicted pedophiles are still hired in Hollywood,” despite laws that prevent it. “Unless the industry does something about this, more children will end up being abused,” she added.
