Odette Ramaroson, general director and founder of the NGO White Orchids, passed away last Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the age of 89. Widow of André Ramaroson, founder and CEO of the Savonnerie Tropicale group, who died in August 2023, and mother of the late Nadine Ramaroson, former Minister of Population during the Transition regime, Odette Ramaroson devoted many decades to the cause and rights people with disabilities, particularly those with an intellectual disability. This, by founding the association in 1972 (later becoming an NGO) White Orchids, and in 1974 the medical-educational center located in Androhibe, the first center specialized in medical-psychological and socio-educational support for people with intellectual disabilities in Madagascar. Through an approach favoring work and medical-psychological support, while providing support to families, this center founded by Odette Ramaroson has become a reference center for the benefit of people with disabilities.
Honorary president of the association Unity of the Malagasy Goddess (FIAMA), founded by her daughter Nadine Ramaroson, who died in 2011, Odette Ramaroson was a woman committed to the social field. Numerous messages conveyed on various social networks upon the announcement of his disappearance, salute his memory.
Odette Ramaroson will be buried today. The collection of the body is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Ivandry Mahatony, followed by a service at the FJKM Rasalama Martiora Ambohipotsy temple and burial at the family vault in Ambohimanga.
