The Australian government has developed a new law to prevent misinformation on social media platforms.
Publika.az reports that the government says that social media companies are enabling the spread of false information and news.
If the decision is made, the spread of false information will be prevented more quickly. Digital platforms will be fined 5 percent of their global turnover if they fail to prevent the spread of fake news.
Social media companies have declared that this bill is against freedom of expression. Even the head of “X” Elon Musk reacted harshly to the Australian government and called it “fascist”.
Stephen Jones, a member of the Australian House of Representatives, responded to Musk: “I can’t believe that Elon Musk or anyone else thinks it’s okay to post fake content on social media platforms in the name of freedom of expression, robbing Australians of billions of dollars every year.”
In addition, social media giants and search engines are also crushing the media’s advertising revenue, thus ending journalism.
