The “Al-Bashir Benatia” Foundation in Fez has issued a new publication on jurisprudential and judicial issues in Andalusia, collected by the jurist and judge Ibn Tarqat Al-Akki Al-Mari.
Information about the book indicated that “this edition is of great importance to researchers in jurisprudential, historical and social studies because it addresses a group of issues that date back to a very important period in the history of Islam in Andalusia.”
The same source added that this book was edited by Muhammad Rahmani, a specialist in Andalusian fatwa studies, noting that “Rahmani had previously edited a group of Andalusian fatwas such as the fatwas of al-Shatibi issued by Dar al-Fath for Studies and Research, the answers of the jurists of Granada published by al-Zaqaq magazine in its eighth issue, the fatwas of Imam al-Haffar, and others.”
The same data indicated that “the investigation of Ibn Tarqat’s fatwas is of special importance, especially since it is considered one of the Andalusian fatwas whose printed version was lost, let alone its manuscript. Rahmani relied in its investigation on two manuscript versions, the first Spanish and the second Alwani, in addition to manuscripts that dealt with many of the fatwas mentioned in Ibn Tarqat’s manuscript, such as the fatwas of Al-Shatibi, Ibn Lubb, and others.”
It is noteworthy that Amhamed Rahmani is currently working on verifying the answers of the jurist Abdel Wahid bin Ahmed Al-Sharif Al-Sijilmasi, who died in the year 1003 AH.
