Netflix will stop supporting iPhones with operating systems lower than iOS 17

MADRID (Portaltic/EP).- Netflix has begun to notify users that it will no longer support its iPhone app for devices running iOS 17 or older iPads. The app will stop receiving updates and users will lose access to the platform’s movie, TV series and game content.

The streaming content company is discontinuing its service on older Apple products, such as its app for Apple TV, which will no longer be available as of July 31 of this year for these second- and third-generation devices.

Now, Netflix has announced that it has updated the app and will no longer offer support for iPhones running operating systems lower than iOS 17, as well as for some older iPads.

As shared by some users and reported by 9to5Mac, when launching the Netflix application on an iPhone with iOS 16 operating system, a notification appears on the screen with which the company informs you of the update and indicates that, to use the latest version, the iOS 17 operating system or a later version must be installed on the smartphone.

This change specifically affects devices that cannot update their operating system to iOS 17, such as the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. According to the aforementioned media outlet, Apple’s first-generation iPad Pro and iPad 5 tablets will also no longer be able to use the Netflix service.

Therefore, if you use an older version of the Netflix app, your devices will no longer receive updates or patches to fix bugs or other security issues.

For the moment, Netflix has started displaying this notification to warn users of the change, so it has not yet applied the end of support and the alert can be ignored. In addition, if users want to access the service, they can open their account on the platform from the browser.
