In mid-July, Netflix announced a partnership with Microsoft to develop its new low-cost ad-inclusive subscription modality revealed in April.

The decision to create a new low-cost subscription plan comes after a loss of competitiveness by Netflix in the streaming platform market that has translated into a slowdown in the company’s growth rate and led to a notable reduction of its workforce.

Netflix lost almost a million subscribers (970,000 accounts) during the second quarter of the year, a period in which it obtained net profits of 1,441 million dollars, the company revealed in its latest results report published on July 19.

The company emphasizes that the transition from traditional television to streaming is increasingly faster: “Not in vain, in the United States it has surpassed free-to-air and cable television.”

«We are sure that, now that Netflix is available from 5.49 euros per month, we have a price and a plan for every fan. While this is just the beginning, there has been tremendous interest from both consumers and the advertising community, and we couldn’t be happier about everything to come. As we learn and improve, we will launch this plan in more countries,” he insisted.

Last August The Walt Disney Company also announced that later this year its most popular streaming platform, Disney+, will offer an ad-supported plan and another ad-free option at a higher price in the United States.
