Israel’s opposition is gaining more support among the population, according to the poll, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s party and a coalition of right-wing parties continue to lose popularity. This was reported by “Interfax” agency.
It is noted that according to the survey conducted by Maariv newspaper, if elections were held in Israel at this time, Netanyahu’s “Likud” party would receive 18 seats in the parliament, while Benny Gantz’s “National Unity” party would receive 40 seats. At first, Gantz was in the opposition, but later he joined the narrow military cabinet of the emergency government of “National Unity”.
In addition, the alliance of right-wing parties forming the government coalition led by Netanyahu would receive 44 mandates, and the current opposition, together with “National Unity”, 76. There are 120 seats in the Israeli parliament.
In January, a similar survey showed that if elections were held, Likud would get 16 seats and National Unity – 37 seats. Moreover, many declared that they would prefer to see Gantz or a member of the military cabinet, Gadi Eysenkot, as the prime minister.
