Firefighters and General Directorate of Forestry teams continue their efforts to extinguish forest fires that broke out in Milas district of Muğla and Germencik district of Aydın.
Due to temperatures above seasonal norms, forest fire news came from Muğla and Aydın.
MUGLA
A fire broke out in a forest area in the Sekköy area of the Milas district of Muğla for an unknown reason. Upon notification, teams from the Muğla Forestry Regional Directorate were dispatched to the area. The fire was intervened from the air during the day with 6 planes and 8 helicopters.
As the weather darkens, the fire is being fought from land by a large number of water trucks, fire trucks and forestry workers, as well as gendarmerie TOMA vehicles and Yeniköy Kemerköy Electricity Production and Trade Inc. (YK Energy) construction equipment. Volunteers from various civil society organizations and citizens also support the extinguishing efforts.
NEIGHBORHOOD BEGINS TO BE EVACUATED
As the fire spread to the surrounding area due to the strong winds that started after dark, it was decided to evacuate Çakırılan Neighborhood near Sekköy as a precaution.
AYDIN
A fire broke out in the olive grove in the Gümüşköy area of the Germencik district of Aydın for an unknown reason. The flames spread to the forest area due to the wind. Teams from surrounding provinces were also dispatched to the area. The extinguishing efforts are supported by TOMAs belonging to the gendarmerie and police departments and citizens.
SOME WORKPLACES WERE EVACUATED
Despite the intensive intervention of the teams from air and land, the flames spread to the upper parts of Argavlı Neighborhood in Söke district. Some workplaces on the Aydın-Söke highway were evacuated. Citizens affected by the smoke in the workplaces were treated in ambulances in the region.
GOVERNOR AND MAYOR IN THE REGION
Aydin Governor Yakup Canbolat, AK Party Aydin Deputy Omer Ozmen, CHP Aydin Deputy Huseyin Yildiz and Evrim Karakoz and Aydin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ozlem Cercioglu inspected the area. Canbolat told reporters that the temperature in the city was high and the fire was spreading rapidly.
“9 HELICOPTERS AND 9 AIRPLANES ARE INTERVENING”
Canbolat, who stated that the wind was effective in the region, continued as follows: “We are trying to control the fire. In this fight, we intervened in the incident from the very beginning with 50 vehicles and 220 personnel from our Forestry Regional Directorate, 9 teams from our gendarmerie, public order and traffic team, 72 personnel, 30 vehicles and 120 personnel from our metropolitan municipality, 25 personnel from our security department, and 5 vehicles and 25 personnel from our health directorate. Necessary measures have been taken and we are intervening. 9 helicopters and 9 planes are intervening. In addition, 5 TOMAs of our police have also arrived in the region.”
“WE EVACUATED TWO HOUSES AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE”
Stating that there was no loss of life, Canbolat said, “Unfortunately, the fire spread to 2 abandoned houses. As a precaution, we evacuated 2 houses and evacuated the people inside. We also evacuated a restaurant. We requested reinforcements from Izmir, Manisa and Denizli. They are also on their way. We also closed the highway to traffic in the direction of Söke so that vehicles that will intervene in the fire can easily arrive. We are only taking vehicles that will intervene in the fire.”
Canbolat stated that a fire that broke out at another point close to the region damaged an area of 250 acres and that the fire had been brought under control. Mayor Çerçioğlu also noted that all teams were continuing their intervention.
