Self-employed workers who completed Operation Renta 2024 are automatically protected by the Labor Security Institute.
Santiago. 08/2024. On July 1, coverage began for fee-based workers who filed their tax returns in the 2024 Income Tax Operation. The withholdings include the payment of health contributions, pension fund savings, Disability and Survivors Insurance (SIS), SANNA Law (parents’ right to a subsidy for medical leave due to illness or serious accident of a son or daughter) and Insurance against Workplace Accidents and Occupational Diseases of Law 16,744, administered by the Labor Safety Institute (ISL).
According to the first report from the General Treasury of the Republic, 467,349 workers were enrolled in the ISL from July 1 to June 30, 2025, of which 161,646 are new and 305,703 remain protected from the previous period. This is due to Law 21,133, which established the gradual obligation to contribute to independent workers, with income through honorarium receipts, in order to have coverage of social security benefits.
The ISL provides support in prevention and in the event of an accident or occupational illness, medical and rehabilitation care, subsidies for work-related incapacity (medical leave), old-age pensions, compensation, survivors’ pensions, among others.
In this context, the national director of the ISL, Aida Chacón, indicated that “the benefits provided by the ISL in the event of a work-related or commuting accident, consider total recovery, that is, in the event of requiring therapies, kinesiology, prosthetics and even professional retraining, if the worker cannot continue carrying out his/her profession or trade due to the accident or occupational illness. For this purpose, it has a series of agreements that cover both the public and private health network.”
“We invite paid workers to register on the website isl.gob.cl and tell us what their occupation is, because this will allow us to know what preventive coverage we can provide them, and at the same time, they will be able to see the nearest centers in the provider network in case they require early attention,” he added.
Those who are part of this sector can obtain more information at honoraria.isl.gob.cl or by calling the Call Center at 600 586 9090.
