Aaron Gordon, one of the star players for the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Denver Nuggets, suffered a horrific “off the court” injury when he was attacked by a dog.
Several North American media outlets report that the dog bit Gordon on the face and arm during Christmas celebrations. He will be out of action for some time. ESPN reports he received 21 stitches in his face.
The Nuggets’ official statement said Gordon is in “good condition,” and ESPN has determined his absence is unlikely to be long-term.
Gordon’s departure from the lineup is a blow to the Nuggets, as he is a starting power forward who, along with Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Michael Porter, led the league last season.
The 28-year-old Gordon, who has been a regular basketball player for most of his career, has averaged 13.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists this season.
