Nayib Bukele assumes second consecutive term in El Salvador

The last president to be re-elected consecutively in El Salvador was the dictator and general Maximiliano Hernández Martínez (1931 and 1944)

He President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukelewas invested for a second consecutive term for the period 2024-2029despite the constitutional prohibition, in a private ceremony and broadcast on national network.

Bukele, widely supported by the population, responded “Yes, I swear” during the swearing-in carried out by Ernesto Castroleader of the Legislative Assembly, at the National Palace.
