Prime Ministerial candidate Nawaz Sharif in Pakistan’s general election lost to Shahzada Gastasap, an independent candidate supported by Imran Khan, in NA-15 Mansehra constituency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by a significant margin. This is a very surprising event in the context of this election.
According to unofficial results from National Assembly constituency NA-15 Mansehra, Nawaz Sharif got 63 thousand 54 votes in this seat. On the other hand, Shahzada Gastasap got 74 thousand 713 votes. In other words, Nawaz was defeated by 11,659 votes.
The ‘unexpected’ result is being considered as a major setback for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). However, Nawaz Sharif is also a candidate for NA-130 constituency in Lahore. His rival there is independent candidate Yasmin Rashid.
Official results released so far show PTI-backed independent candidates of Imran’s party winning 6 seats, Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N candidates in 5 seats and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidates in 4 seats.
