Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – 2024 will be an important year for the exploration and study of the Sun at the center of the Solar System.
NASA plans to complete a “solar landing” with the Parker spacecraft.
Of course, the solar “landing” in question isn’t really a landing. Because the surface of the stars in our Solar System is not a solid object that can be used to land a spacecraft and is too hot for any object to approach.
However, NASA describes this upcoming approach as “touching a star.”
This approach will represent the second time the Parker Solar Probe has completed an exploration objective. Parquet’s first mission took place when the probe first touched the sun’s atmosphere.
This mission is expected to help humans gain a deeper understanding of the Sun and place this probe closer to the Sun’s surface than before.
But pulling off a solar landing like the one Parker planned wouldn’t be easy. This spacecraft will encounter intense heat and radiation during its journey.
On this mission Parker will fly seven times closer to the sun than any previous spacecraft. This trip is completely new for NASA, because the targeted area has never been explored before. Likewise, with the study and durability of this object, NASA is still not sure how the parquet will survive in these conditions.
However, the research is worth the risk, as Parker’s solar probe will open the door to more data about the Sun and its surface.
This will help provide scientists with more details that can be used to predict the Sun’s future weather forecasts, something that will become increasingly important as we head towards the Sun’s maximum in 2025.
