Naples / “Drowned” in the ash from the great fire on Camaldoli Hill

Much of Naples has been covered today, Thursday 20/6 by a layer of ash from a huge fire that has been raging since yesterday, Wednesday, evening on the Camaldoli hill of this port city in southern Italy.

Districts of the city, including its historic center, have been covered by black and gray ash, like powder, which comes from the forest of this hill on the outskirts of Naples. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi said the fire was “probably arson” and underlined the need “to protect our forest heritage”.

Canadair firefighting planes are involved in efforts to extinguish the fire and the situation is reportedly improving.
