Musical meeting of Mapuche women and dissidents
- USACH Aula Magna Theater, Victor Jara Avenue 3659, University of Santiago Metro.
- Saturday, September 7 – 12:00 to 21:30.
- Entry allowed.
With the aim of raising awareness, promoting and supporting the current music scene of Mapuche women and dissidents, the We Rayün Festival (“New Blossom”) will have its first version at USACH.
The initiative was born from the lack of spaces for the dissemination and promotion of musical projects led by women and Mapuche dissidents, and is taking shape to become an unmissable interdisciplinary meeting that promises to provide space for talents, artisans and thinkers who seek to expand the imaginaries of the Mapuche, creating from the city and other territories.
“We also believe that there is little commitment, both in social and cultural terms, to generate intercultural instances that support and make visible the work of Mapuche creators from their different territories,” say the We Rayün Collective, organizers of the event. “These creators are developing diverse musical proposals of great artistic value, combining both traditional and contemporary sound elements in their musical work.”
The activities will begin with the Trades Fair (12:00 to 20:00), which includes a stand of medicinal herbs, jewelry, looms and more. Meanwhile, between 15:00 and 16:30, there will be a discussion based on the book “Violeta Parra in the Wallmapu: Dialogue around her sound research of the ül or traditional Mapuche song” with its authors Elisa Loncón and Paula Miranda, and Andrea Salazar from Archivo Sonoro Mapuche.
Live music will be provided by Daniela Millaleo (folkrock), Carmen Lienqueo (popular world music), Isleña Antumalén (dembow, reggaeton, neoperreo and rap), Puelpan (electropunk and experimental pop), Pablo Lincura (electropop) and Kuri Lafken (trova and rap). This block will take place between 5 and 9:20 p.m.
It is worth noting that the Festival is held within the framework of the International Day of Indigenous Women (September 5).
