RUSSIA – Russia has reportedly supplied Murmansk-BN Electronic Warfare to Iran. The move comes amid tensions over the potential outbreak of war between Tehran and Israel following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Previously, Iran had threatened to retaliate for the murder of Haniyeh which was blamed on Israel. In response to the threat, Tel Aviv was undeterred and declared itself ready to retaliate against any action directed at it.

Reports of Murmansk-BN’s presence in Iran are based on Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) observations. They noted the continued flights of Russian transport aircraft to Iran recently.

So, what exactly is the Russian-supplied Murmansk-BN Electronic Warfare? Here’s the explanation.

Murmansk-BN Electronic Warfare Specifications

Murmansk-BN Electronic Warfare is a sophisticated military device owned by Russia. In the ranks of Moscow’s electronic warfare (EW) systems, its name is no less popular than similar devices such as ‘Krasukha’ to ‘Divnomorye’.

Quoting the Army Recognition page, Murmansk-BN was designed as a modern electronic warfare system by the Russian company KRET. Its function is to disrupt the communication signals of enemy military equipment within a certain radius.

The Murmansk-BN system is considered the most powerful because it can disrupt and intercept enemy radio signals, GPS, satellites, and other electronic systems. Its operational range is quite wide, namely between 5,000 and 8,000 kilometers.

Furthermore, Murmansk-BN can be deployed within 72 hours. Its components consist of several antenna masts mounted on military-style trucks.

The device is also capable of automatically scanning large areas. Typically, each 32-meter-long pole can cover an area of 640,000 km².

In its ownership, Murmansk-BN is Russia’s mainstay as the most efficient electronic warfare system. Through its use, this system is claimed to be able to disrupt high-frequency military satellite communications belonging to NATO and the United States.

According to other Russian sources, the US F-35 fighter jet system was even said to be inoperable due to interference caused by Murmansk-BN. Therefore, its existence is indeed very reliable for the Moscow military.
