“The Municipality of Moutsis has left its mark on Greek song”, emphasizes the head of Culture of SYRIZA – PS, Kyriaki Malama
The last farewell to the great composer, Dimos Moutsis, who on Tuesday breathed his last at the age of 85, was addressed by the political leadership and the artistic world.
“Dimos Moutsis recorded a long career as a composer and songwriter” emphasizes in her condolence message the head of the culture department of SYRIZA – PS, Sunday Malama adding that the great composer “gave Greek culture songs, collaborated with great personalities of the field and left his own mark on the art of music of his time”.
The Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni informed of the death of the great composer, she emphasized that “the Municipality of Moutsis, left today, “looking for a way out, looking for a different life”. One of the most important composers of the post-war era, with an irreplaceable and recognized contribution to the renewal of Greek song”.
“With a solid musical education, he leaves behind a work with a wide range, characterized by the continuous processing of his expressive means and by a constant experimentation in new sounds, ending up, very often, in an impeccable osmosis of the popular with the contemporary” points out L. Mendonis and expressing her warm condolences adds:
“Dimos Moutsis set to music, with great success, the works of leading contemporary poets and collaborated with the leading performers and lyricists of his time, before taking on these roles himself, marking the remarkable turn in his creative path. His songs are sometimes in tune with the collective demands of society, especially in the 1970s, and sometimes they emit a more personal, sometimes almost solitary, tone, composing a work that was justly embraced by the public, gaining a prominent place in modern music creation.
KKE: The Municipality of Moutsis left a great legacy
“It is with emotion that we say goodbye to Dimos Moutsis, an inspiring music composer who with his high quality work left a great legacy to Greek song by seriously contributing to its evolution. With the emblematic work “Agios Februarios” of 1971, with lyrics by Manos Eleftheriou and performed by Dimitris Mitropanos and Petris Salpeas, he opened new paths in the Greek discography” emphasizes the KKE about the death of the music composer.
In the same announcement, the KKE, expressing its sincere condolences, points out that “the Municipality of Moutsis faced its creation with humility, moderation and self-awareness. Refusing repetition, he always sought to bring something new and original to his music. It is his creativity that has allowed him to establish a completely personal mark. His well-known songs – often with lyrics by our great lyricists – are much loved by the general public, they are sung not only in groups, but also in workers’ gatherings and demonstrations. Next to these, the Municipality of Moutsis also leaves us a project of high demands with excellent musicalizations of the works of our leading poets. He and his songs will remain unforgettable to us.”
Giorgos Dalaras: We leaned on him and learned a lot
The news of the death of Dimos Moutsis also spread sadness in the artistic world with George Dalaras saying goodbye to him:
“A harmonica that cries”… Municipality of Moutsis. A great composer, a genius musician, a rare and special performer, a restless spirit, with a rich body of work. The whole Greek song, all of us, leaned on it and learned a lot. He belongs to the company of the enlightened ones of our song, those who are measured in the fingers of our hands. Goodbye Dimos, traveler of all.”
