Muhammadiyah Ready to Manage Mines, Muhadjir: Corporate Body Has Been Formed

JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah has formed two corporate bodies for mining management. This is a follow-up after Muhammadiyah received a mining concession from the government.

Muhammadiyah has appointed Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy as Chair of the Muhammadiyah Mining Management Team.

“The mining team has now been formed, with me as the team leader. However, I am not in my capacity as a mining expert, but as the PP Chairman in charge of the economy,” said Muhadjir at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (11/9/2024).

Two corporate bodies have been formed, namely a strategic company and an operating company. “There is a strategic corporation, so a strategic corporation. Then also a company, I mean a strategic company. This one will later become a holding. Then there is an operating company. This operating company will be the experts who have experience in mining Muhammadiyah people and are also experts,” he said.

Muhammadiyah in managing the mine will also involve five faculties of the Mining Department at the Muhammadiyah Campus.

Muhadjir ensured that Muhammadiyah would not rush to decide on the management of the mine and would first prepare its management body. The reason is, in the management of the mine, it cannot be directly to social organizations but must go through a business entity.

“We will not rush to decide. If we accept it, yes. But we will first prepare the institution within Muhammadiyah. Starting from earlier, we will form the holding company. Because it cannot go directly to the social organization, but must go through its business entity,” he said.

“We have a Muhammadiyah-owned business entity called BUMM. Now we are forming a holding company, called a strategic company. Then the operating company has been formed again. Later, this operating company will work together with contractors, including those who conduct initial surveys to determine the feasibility of mining until the businesses are truly solid,” he continued.
