Much uncertainty over fatal conflict between neighbors in Rotterdam | Domestic

ROTTERDAM – A 71-year-old man died last September in Rotterdam in a long-running conflict between neighbors, but it is not yet clear who inflicted the fatal stab wound. It is unclear how many people were involved in the brawl which took place on the Molièreweg in the Lombardijen district. Three suspects were due to appear in court in Rotterdam for the first time on Thursday. This was a non-substantive hearing.

Police received a report on September 27 at around 8pm that a group of around ten people were kicking a man who was lying on the ground. The victim had a stab wound to the chest and had to be resuscitated, but she died instantly from her injuries. Her dog was also stung.

It turned out that the man had long been at odds with his neighbor Albertico R., who lived a little further away. Several reports of this had been made. It is said that on that fateful evening, a nuisance occurred again and the victim went to seek redress from R. The reason for the brawl was said to be that the victim was filming the nuisance.

R.’s brother Ewart R. and his son Edward S. also had to appear in court. All three deny being stabbed. The knife was not found. S. admits to having hit and kicked, but then left. “I got involved in something that wasn’t my problem.” He invited his father and his uncle to take responsibility. “I won’t accept this, not even for my father or my uncle,” S said.

According to the lawyers, much research into the circumstances is still needed, also because many witness statements are “unclear to say the least”, according to one of the lawyers. A new hearing is scheduled for March, but even then the merits of the case will not yet be dealt with. It is not yet clear when. The three men remain in prison for the moment.
