Evaluating the fish farm investment planned in Mersin’s Aydıncık district and planned to increase capacity, Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MTSO) President Hakan Sefa Çakır said, “We are against fish farms that are unplanned and without effective inspection. On the other hand, fish farms that are planned in accordance with scientific rules and with institutions that are experts on the subject, are located on the shore.” “We support investments that are remote, do not negatively affect other sectors, especially tourism, do not create sea pollution, and will contribute to the city,” he said.
Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry June Assembly Meeting was held under the chairmanship of Assembly President Hamit İzol. Speaking at the meeting where sectoral evaluations were made, the city’s economy and new investments were discussed, MTSO President Hakan Sefa Çakır congratulated the Mersin companies that entered the ISO 500 and TİM 1000 lists. Evaluating the fish farm investments that were brought to the agenda again, Çakır said:
“The issue of establishing a fish farm in Aydıncık has come to the agenda again. These investments are always talked about, but we must know why we are against the investment or why we defend it. First of all, let me state that we are not a party to investments that harm the city, the environment, or do not make a positive contribution to the city economy. For this reason, it is unplanned.” We must also oppose the fish farms that are being built. Economy is important, but Mersin is more important to us than anything else. According to the information we have received, if the fish farms are planned correctly and do not come into conflict with the sectors, I can summarize that if you ask what this sectoral conflict is, it will not harm tourism, will not pollute the sea, and will not negatively affect the ecosystem. , then there is no problem. Of course, investment intensity is also important. If many fish farms that overproduce in the same area are built, it may pollute the environment and the sea in more dispersed areas, far from the center and the coast, considering the current direction, wind direction and marine life. “A planned farm will not cause any trouble.”
Touching on the importance of monitoring the farms and ensuring their inspection, Çakır continued: “The most important issue in this process is effective and continuous inspection. Mersin has institutions specialized in this field. As MTSO, we organize this work with provincial environmental directorates, universities, municipalities and institutes.” “We are ready to do so. In short, we cannot be against planned and controlled farms that will be created as a result of scientific studies to be carried out with universities and expert institutions. However, Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry will not be a party to any investment that will harm the city. This is our responsibility.”
Then, Çakır informed the council members about the work carried out on agriculture, OIZs and fairs, and completed his speech by answering the members’ questions.
At the meeting, Vice President Mustafa Özdamar shared information with the council members about the Moscow Construction Fair, which they attended in May, while Hasan Hüseyin İpek drew attention to a social problem and requested awareness raising activities to be carried out in the fight against drugs, which are rapidly spreading among young people. Referring to the importance of defense industry investments, Hakan Kayacı drew attention to the need to support technopark companies and companies engaged in value-added production and to do more work on this subject. – MERSIN
