Last year we saw the premiere of several portable game consoles (so-called PDAs) from the largest electronics manufacturers. In addition to the updated version of the Steam Deck, this time using an OLED screen, we have previews such as the ASUS ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go. During CES 2024 in Las Vegas, MSI also introduced a similar device. Unlike the previously mentioned models, MSI has decided to choose the latest Intel systems from the Meteor Lake generation.
MSI Claw represents the Taiwanese company’s first approach to the topic of portable game consoles. The equipment is equipped with Intel Meteor Lake processors with integrated Intel ARC Graphics graphics chips.

I was able to use MSI Claw twice during CES 2024: once at the Intel trade show and once at the MSI booth. In this case we are talking about a rather thin portable console, whose dimensions are 294 x 117 x 21.2 mm. However, unlike ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go or Steam Deck (OLED), MSI has chosen Intel Core Ultra 5 135H and Core Ultra 7 155H processors from the Meteor Lake generation. During the presentation you will be able to play several titles, including: Assassin’s Creed Mirage. While the gameplay was fairly smooth most of the time (the game always had XeSS enabled in Performance mode), there were still moments where the animation had temporary “freezes”. Minor problems will be resolved by updating the software. Overall, however, performance was very optimistic, thanks to the much more powerful and integrated Intel ARC Graphics graphics system instead of Iris Xe Graphics (if we were hypothetically using the previous generation).

What I noticed is the fact that the MSI Claw remains cool even under intensive use (and, above all, long-lasting, given that these devices are practically constantly switched on at trade shows). The Cooler Boost HyperFlow system is responsible for the cooling, which includes, among others: two fans and two heat pipes. Unlike Valve, ASUS or Lenovo consoles, MSI has also implemented a larger battery with a capacity of 53 Wh. During a conversation with an MSI representative, I received information that the integrated cell will allow approximately 4.5 hours of continuous gameplay without the need to plug in the console to charge it. For such a small device, the cell capacity and efficiency are truly impressive. As for the screen, the manufacturer has chosen a 7″ IPS display with Full HD resolution, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The screen seems to be almost a copy (in terms of parameters) of the one we have already received in ASUS ROG Ally MSI Claw will be available for sale in the first half of the year and prices start at $699, so it will be very competitive in terms of price compared to ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go.
