After the goat incident, the discussion and criticism is that Matiur Rahman was appointed as the director of Sonali Bank on February 1, 2022, while the current governor was the finance secretary. It is alleged that Matiur became the director of Sonali Bank on the strong recommendation of the current governor (the then finance secretary). Meanwhile, their pictures went viral on social media.
Although the two pictures went viral on Wednesday, discussions and criticisms are going on everywhere, including on social media, for a few days. One of the two pictures that went viral was taken in Saudi Arabia during Hajj in 2023. The other picture is in August 2022, Matiur Rahman went to congratulate Abdur Rauf Talukdar after he was appointed as the Governor of Bangladesh Bank.

Last Sunday through the spokesperson of the central bank, the governor was asked in writing on behalf of some media. In the question, it was asked – about the interference in making Matiur Rahman the director of Sonali Bank while the governor was the finance secretary and about the allegations made regarding anonymous investment in the stock market through Matiur. The governor told the media through the spokesperson, ‘This is not correct.’
