Morocco won the right to host the 2025 African Cup of Nations, after Nigeria and Benin withdrew their joint bid, while Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda won the right to host the 2027 edition.
This came during an announcement by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) today, Wednesday, during its executive committee meeting in Cairo.
Morocco will host the continental finals for the second time in its history after the 1988 edition, which was won by Cameroon.
South African President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, said that there is an agreement within the African Confederation for the votes of its fifty members to go in support of the Moroccan bid in the race to win the organization of the 2030 World Cup.
He added that the Moroccan bid to organize the Nations of Africa 2025 came in conformity with all the standards set by CAF, and we followed all the successes that Morocco has achieved recently in all the football demonstrations that it hosted.
Motsepe expressed his great pride in Morocco, which surprised the world at the end of last year in the 2022 World Cup finals after achieving the achievement of becoming the first African country to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.
He expected that Morocco would organize the 2025 African Nations according to international standards, presenting itself as a strong candidate to host the 2030 World Cup in its joint bid with Spain and Portugal.
Côte d’Ivoire will host the 2023 edition, which was postponed from last June and July to next January and February to avoid the rainy season.
