Moroccan cinemas show “Animalia” – Worldys News

Moroccan cinemas are preparing to receive the feature film “Animalia” by director Sofia Alaoui, after a major tour during which it landed in many international and national events; most notably the Marrakech International Film Festival.

Moroccan film director Sofia Alaoui revealed that the release date of her new film will be on September 18, and it will be shown gradually in all national cinemas.

Alaoui said in a statement to Hespress that this film mixes Arabic, Amazigh and French, because she is of Moroccan-French origin and grew up in Casablanca; something she was keen to show in it, whether in terms of dialogue, clothing or way of life, to highlight the spirit of Moroccan culture.

According to its director, the film “Animalia” evokes with its artistic and spiritual sensitivity its dreamlike aesthetics by telling the story of an invasion by alien beings. It also questions the relationships between social classes and the status of women in society, as well as the relationship with belief through awareness of the imbalances that affect our world in decline, and imagines the possibility of a new system that restores its balance.

The story of the film revolves around its heroine, “Itwa”, a young woman from a modest family who is married to “Amin”, the son of one of the rich notables in the region. She was forced to live with her husband’s family during her pregnancy. One day, while she was alone at home, supernatural phenomena swept across the country, starting a series of strange events during “Itwa’s” attempt to join her husband in the neighboring city.

The feature film “Animalia” by director Sofia Alaoui received praise and appreciation from critics of the seventh art during the famous “Sundance” Film Festival when it was awarded the Special Jury Prize. It also won the Best Screenplay Award from the “Cinemania” Film Festival. This was considered a crowning achievement for its young director and for Moroccan cinema.
