More than 60 indigenous people received land usurped by paramilitaries

More than 60 Colombian indigenous people are the beneficiaries of the delivery of 1,300 hectares of lands in the north of the country, which were once the epicenter of paramilitarism and will now be oriented to supply peasant families, reported this Wednesday the National Land Agency (ANT).

Ana Mercedes Pérez She is one of the women from the Association of Empowered Indigenous Women of Palmito who were grateful for the delivery of the lands, which for them symbolize “that there is peace in the territory and that the Government truly addresses the needs of the people.”

The association is made up of 80% mothers who are heads of families and indigenous people affected by the violence of the territories that were devastated by displacement, forced disappearance and murder.

They were victims of drug trafficking violence and paramilitarism in the department of Sucre and now they see a prosperous future for their families by being able to support themselves with crops.

“Today receiving this land for us is fundamental because we can take our ventures to that land that is prosperous and productive”said Rosaura Pérez Vergara, another of the women and legal representative of the association.
