“More than 25 thousand people in March…” – 2024-07-14 19:39:52

In March of this year, more than 25,000 people were infected with cholera, which is 33% less than in February.

Publika.az TASS reports that the World Health Organization (WHO) informed about this.

In the monthly bulletin of the WHO, it was noted that in March, 25,424 cholera cases and 169 deaths were reported from 16 countries. Although 33% fewer cases of infection were registered in March than in February, the WHO called for a cautious approach to the downward trend. In March, the most infections were recorded in Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean region.

It should be noted that in January, the WHO classified the increase in the number of cholera cases in the world as a level 3 emergency, which is the highest level of difficulty.

It was noted by the WHO that there is an acute shortage of cholera vaccines in the world. From January 2023 to March 2024, the number of urgent requests for such vaccines increased dramatically; 14 countries applied for 79 million doses. However, at that time, the stock of vaccines was 40 million units. As of April 15, the stockpile of cholera vaccine worldwide is 2.3 million doses.
