There are 224 thousand diagnosed cases, but the estimated ones are many more: around 600 thousand because the disease is often asymptomatic. To facilitate diagnosis, therapy and follow-up of the disease and dermatitis herpetiformis, the Italian Society of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy (SIGE), in collaboration with other scientific societies, has created a document containing the national guidelines, presented today in the Caduti Hall of Nassirya of the Senate.

“The drafting of guidelines on the most frequent gastroenterological diseases represents an attempt to provide all doctors with a suitable tool to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients, and to contain healthcare spending”, explains Luca Frulloni, full professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Verona and president of SIGE. It is then necessary, “not to start the gluten-free diet before completing the diagnostic process – he continues -.
