The host of “Kropka nad i” is famous not only for her interviews with politicians, but also for her passion for controversial outfits, which do not always suit her, for which she is often scolded by fans. However, she doesn’t mind the criticism, laughs off the unflattering comments and says that she loves experiments and, whether anyone likes it or not, she will experiment with fashion.
It’s hard to believe, but Monika Olejnik already has 40 years of work in the media (she started in 1981 with an internship in the editorial office of… the agricultural radio station Jedynka), she is the first Polish journalist filmed – during interviews conducted in a television studio – from feet to head. Mariusz Walter had the idea to allow viewers to see her not only from the waist up, but also to admire her legs and her shoes, in 1997.
“I remember when at 7 pm “Fakty” hosted by Tomek Lis started, and at 7.30 pm my “Kropka nad i” competed with TVP’s “Wiadomości”. The viewers saw a new format for filming a news program. Mariusz Walter came up with the idea of framing the entire character, discreetly including the shoes, the legs and then a close-up of our faces”, he recalled in an interview with “Viva!”.
It was then that Monika Olejnik – as she herself says – fell in love with fashion. She before she just she didn’t have time to play with it.
“The most important thing for me was the fashion of journalism,” he told Viva!
The host of “Kropka nad i” has been considered one of the best dressed Polish women for years and, even if she sometimes makes unforgivable mistakes, she manages to amaze with her outfits. Fashion critics and stylists praise her taste, her style and her sense of taste, but Internet users are merciless towards her and often point out that she should dress appropriately for her her age.
What hurts Monika Olejnik much more than pointing out her fashion missteps is that she has built her entire journalism career on controversy. There are people who cannot forget that she started working in public media at a time when they were boycotted.
Many accuse her of having had an easier start because her father was an officer in the PRL security apparatus. Some say openly that she cannot be objective and cannot hide which of her guests she likes (then her conversations are like “having a coffee on your aunt’s name day”) and which she doesn’t (then she is not afraid of sharp questions).
The journalist recently confessed, responding to criticism, that she has no intention of changing because she worked for too long on the perception that today’s viewers have of her, and then suddenly softened and pretended to be an old lady.
“Every show I do, every interview, is extremely important to me. I analyze, I wonder, I feel dissatisfied,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I don’t compare myself to anyone in real life. I’m not jealous at all. And the fact that success in Poland arouses envy bothers me a lot,” she added, implying that those who criticize her simply envy her for being an accomplished person, a journalist and a happy woman.
Monika Olejnik, even if Internet users advise her to take a well-deserved retirement and give way to younger colleagues, has no intention of putting an end to her career!
