Moldova has announced the implementation of recommendations on EU membership – 2024-06-09 10:13:47

Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gerasimova said that the republic has fulfilled all the instructions of Brussels to join the European Union, and now it remains to wait for the official start of negotiations.

This is reported by TASS, quoting Kristina Gerasimova’s words.

“Moldova confidently moves towards the official start of EU membership negotiations. Today, Moldova was recognized as the executor of the last three recommendations of the European Commission,” Gerasimova wrote on her Facebook page.

Earlier, the representative of the European Commission, Ana Pisonero, said at a briefing held in Brussels that the permanent representatives of the EU countries reached an agreement on the recommendation to start negotiations on EU membership with Ukraine and Moldova.

In June 2022, the EU granted candidate country status to Moldova and Ukraine, setting several conditions for the official start of accession negotiations. In December 2023, at the EU summit, a decision was made to start negotiations on the future membership of these countries. Moldovan President Maia Sandu announced her intention to run for a second term late last year and proposed a referendum to allow citizens to express their opinion on the country’s accession to the EU. The results of the plebiscite are expected to be enshrined in the country’s constitution.
