Mohammedan finished the first round of the Bangladesh Premier League five points behind Bashundhara Kings. It’s been a long time since Mohammedan’s decent position in the points table. The Blacks also got off to a great start in the second phase which started on Friday. The yet-to-be Premier League side closed the gap on Bashundhara Kings with a 4-0 win over Fortis FC.
Mohammedan took the lead in the 41st minute in the match held in Mymensingh. Uzbekistan midfielder Mozaffarov scored after receiving the ball from Mali’s Soleiman Diabat.
Mohammedan went into the break leading 2-0 after Soleman Diabate scored in first half injury time. Alfaz Ahmed’s team left the field with a 4-0 victory when Zafar Iqbal scored in the 52nd minute and Shahriar Imon scored in the 59th minute.
Mohammedan started the Premier League with a match against Fortis. Alfaz Ahmed’s team won 2-1 in that match of the first phase.
Mohammedan finished the first phase with 17 points in 9 matches. 20 points in 10 games in Friday’s win. Which is 2 points less than Kings. The Kings will play the first match of the second phase on Saturday against the Brothers. If they win, the gap with Mohammedan will increase by 5 as before.
There were two more matches on Friday. Police Football Club beat Chittagong Abahani 1-0 in Munshiganj and former champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra drew 1-1 in Gopalganj.
