Despite an extensive search, missing 16-year-old Yoran Krol from Sleeuwijk in Brabant was not found on Saturday. He disappeared on Christmas Eve.
Around 2,500 people searched for hours for the missing girl in and around Sleeuwijk on Saturday. After a tip-off to the police, her jacket was found on Friday afternoon in the Merwede near Papendrecht.
The volunteers who participated in the research were divided into groups and they were assigned a research area. The action began at 10am on Saturday and lasted until sunset. The search was conducted in a 30 kilometer radius around Sleeuwijk.
Around midday, organizers reported that around fifteen hundred people would assist in the search, “but volunteers continued to sign up throughout the day,” says a spokesperson for the organizers’ Coordination Platform for the Missing (CPV). According to a police spokesperson, this is the largest coordinated search for a missing person ever carried out in the Netherlands.
Drones also used in research operations
Drones were also used in the search, Yoran’s father said on Facebook. The search was mainly carried out towards the Boven-Merwede River.
Yoran was last seen at a youth center in nearby Almkerk. His bicycle was later found near the Merwede Bridge, about 10 kilometers away.
Police will continue to search for Yoran after Saturday’s search. “He has not been found, but this day could provide clues that will allow us to find him,” says a spokesperson for the CPV.
