Five minors showed signs of intoxication after eating Oreo-type cookies and Takis fries, which contained THC, which stands for Tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive component of cannabis.
At first it was believed that the sweets were in poor condition, and that this had caused indigestion, but the symptoms were not from expired junk food.
Seeing that the state of health was worsening, neighbors called the emergency number to request the medical services of an ambulance, to attend to children with a severe degree of intoxication.
The Red Cross unit went to International Street, in the Siglo de Torreón neighborhood, where the incident occurred.
In the first instance, there were three minors who were treated, and upon seeing the grade in which they were, they decided to transfer them to the Red Cross, so that they could be treated by the medical staff. They were three boys, ages 2, 4 and 7. year old.
Minutes later the neighbors called again to request another ambulance, as two other infants had the same symptoms. When the ambulance arrived, they were promptly treated. They were a 3-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, who presented vomiting among other symptoms; They were discharged at the scene.
According to statements from the neighbors themselves, the mother of two of the little ones was the one who gave them the Takis and the cookies, without imagining that they contained the marijuana derivative; The woman works as a domestic worker and the owner of the house was the one who gave them to her to give to her children, assuming that she was also unaware that they contained THC.
At some point on Wednesday afternoon, one of the children opened the packages and gave it to his brother, they went out to the street and there the product was consumed by other children when they innocently shared the products with the drugs.
Elements from the Municipal Public Security Directorate arrived at the scene to take statements and confiscate the junk food added with THC, waiting for an investigation file to be opened. Finally, the three minors who were admitted to the Red Cross were transferred to the General Hospital, where they remained for observation.
