Ministry of PUPR Disburses IDR 2.42 trillion to Build the Bolango Ulo Dam in Gorontalo

JAKARTA – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) poured IDR 2.42 trillion to build the Bolango Ulo Dam in Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo. The target is that construction of the dam will be completed in October 2024.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the construction of the Bolango Ulu dam is included in the list of National Strategic Projects (PSN) and is part of the project to build 61 dams from 2015 to 2025 which will increase the amount of water storage to support food and water security in Gorontalo.

“The dam and irrigation network were built at a large cost. Therefore, make sure the quality of the work is good so that it can be used optimally to irrigate farmers’ rice fields,” said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono in his official statement, Saturday (27/4/2024).

Director of Dams and Lakes, Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of PUPR, Adenan Rasyid, said that the Bolango Ulu Dam is a multipurpose dam that was built in 2019 and is targeted for completion in October 2024. The physical progress of the dam construction has now reached 48.41%.

The Bolango Ulu Dam has a capacity of 84.10 million m3 to support an irrigation area of ​​4,950 ha, especially in the Lomaya Irrigation Area (DI), Alale DI, and Pilohayanga DI. This dam is expected to increase planting intensity (from IP 265 to IP 300) in the rice-rice-palawija pattern when compared to the rain-fed method which only produces one harvest a year.

This dam with an upright core rock fill type has a pool area of ​​up to 483 ha which can be used as a water reservoir to control floods in the downstream area of ​​the Bolango River. Water sources originating from the Bolango watershed will be controlled by the dam, especially during the rainy season by reducing flood discharge to 414 m3/second. This dam is also said to have the potential as a source of electric power of 4.96 MW.

The construction of the Bulango Ulu Dam was carried out in two construction packages, namely Package I carried out by contractors PT Hutama Karya – PT Basuki Rahmanta Putra, PT Bina Nusa Lestari (KSO) and Package II by PT Brantas Abipraya – PT Bumi Karya, and PT Istaka Karya (KSO ).
