Ministry of Foreign Affairs / Verbal communication and protest letters for Turkish NAVTEX

In all the texts, the Turkish claims are rejected and the legal correctness of the Greek positions is highlighted, diplomatic sources note

Athens made progress through verbal communication after the issuance of two Navtex issued by Turkey, but also with letters of protest in which Turkish claims are rejected and the legal correctness of Greek positions is presented.

Diplomatic sources highlight that regarding the Turkish Navtex, a relevant verbal communication has already been delivered by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Turkish side, and that letters of protest from the Hydrographic Service have been sent to the competent IMO service and to the Spanish Navtex coordinator of the Mediterranean and Black Sea region .

In all the texts, as noted, the Turkish claims are rejected and the legal correctness of the Greek positions is highlighted.

It is recalled that yesterday, Monday, the Turkish Hydrographic Station of Antalya issued a NAVTEX with which it claims that the area bounded southeast of Karpathos on February 20 and 21 for the exercise of the Greek Navy under the name “TRIAINA”, belongs to the jurisdiction of Turkey .

Later, a second Turkish NAVTEX followed, from the Izmir Station, with which Ankara reinstated the demilitarization of a series of Greek islands, which it had done, however, about a week earlier.
