Minister Uraloğlu’s Instagram statement: There are minor details left, we want to solve them as soon as possible

While the access ban on Instagram continues, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made remarkable statements about the latest developments.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu examined the works on site after his speech at Çukurova International Airport. Later, Minister Uraloğlu met with journalists in the conference hall and answered questions directed to him.

“WE DO NOT HAVE A PROHIBITORY MENTALITY”

When asked about the recent developments on social media platforms, Minister Uraloğlu said, “First of all, we do not have such a plan. Whatever they do, however they behave, we will close them down. We never have such an approach. Look, we are talking about 60 million social media users here. After all, I have a world account, I have an account on almost every platform. I mean, I use it, our team uses it, we all use it. We really have this approach here, instead of having a prohibitive mentality, a censorship mentality, how can we expand it even more?”

Uraloğlu, who noted that these social media platforms do not display the democratic approach they show as a country, said, “I am saying it very clearly. Look, now they can block or remove your account without making any notification. They can completely block some posts. After all, this is a private company. Of course, they will have their own rules and regulations, but they can do things that are against your laws when necessary. Therefore, we are in favor of continuing the activities of social media platforms. We are never in a banned mindset. If social media platforms were as liberal as we are, you would not have asked me this question today.”

“WE REALLY WANT TO SOLVE THIS ASAP”

Minister Uraloğlu, who stated that they are in contact with all social media platform managements, said, “We are in contact with other social media platforms, be it Instagram. There were things we reported before them. There are issues we reported in the last process. What is going on here? There are issues we call catalogue crimes, sensitivities of our society and country, we are constantly reporting. We came to a point again yesterday. We really want to solve it as soon as possible. We do not have any active work regarding a new social media ban. But we are following up and monitoring in any case.”

ROBLOX BANNED

Minister Uraloğlu continued his words by saying, “As BTK, we were at the point of doing what was necessary for the decision taken by the Criminal Court of Peace in Adana regarding the blocking of a children’s game blog or portal. We did that too. Let me say this; it had not occurred to me that there was such a platform and that it had so many followers. But when we look at the court’s reasons, we really need to look together at where our children are. These are our children. Therefore, I leave that to your discretion. We only did so at the point of implementation, but when we looked at it later, I was very clearly sorry for our children there.”
