Minister Tohá supports Miguel Crispi in the face of questions about past links with Luis Hermosilla

Within the framework of the investigation of the so-called Audios Case, the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, participated this Thursday in the investigative commission of the Chamber of Deputies.

Attention focused on lawyer Luis Hermosilla, who is under scrutiny by the Prosecutor’s Office for the audio published in November of last year and where bribes to officials of the Internal Revenue Service (SII) and the Financial Market Commission (CMF) are mentioned. .

Hermosilla not only faces this case. A new controversy recently arose, after the Prosecutor’s Office examined a mobile phone owned by him, finding information that directly implicates the former director of the PDI, Sergio Muñoz, who was dismissed and is in preventive detention after this discovery.

In Congress, Tohá came out in defense of Miguel Crispi, head of advisors for the Second Floor of La Moneda, who had hired Hermosilla in October of last year in relation to the investigation of the Covenants case. Despite this, Crispi rescinded the lawyer’s defense a month later.

During the debate, deputy Karina Medina (PDG) questioned Tohá about the precautions taken by the Government regarding the case. In that sense, the deputy recalled that Hermosilla was hired by Crispi before the accusations against him came to light, which generated suspicions due to the lawyer’s history in defending corruption cases.

Given this, Tohá stated that “clients are not guilty of the crimes committed by their lawyers,” unless there is antecedents that link them. However, he claimed to be unaware of any in this specific case.

The minister also invited people not to raise doubts without solid foundations and explained that Crispi’s choice of Hermosilla as a lawyer was understandable, given his previous reputation in the legal field.

“He lost it quickly, but he had it,” Tohá concluded, referring to the prestige of the lawyer in question.
