Minister announces next stage in “Zero Hunger” program

ASSUMPTION- The Minister of Social Development, Tadeo Rojas, mentioned details about the next milestone in the “Zero Hunger in Schools” program. The head of the State portfolio highlighted that on Friday, June 21, the reception and opening of the bid envelopes for the provision of the school feeding service will take place.

According to Rojas, if no setbacks arise in the bidding process, the service is expected to begin being provided in 77 districts starting in August. “Everything is progressing well, there are some queries from bidders that we are responding to. We have marked June 21, at 09:00, the time and date for receiving the envelopes, immediately after the opening of the envelopes,” the minister reported.

He highlighted that the objective is to award the contracts in mid-July to guarantee that the service can begin in early August. Two modalities are being considered for the provision of school food: the catering service, which will be implemented mainly in the Central department and in the schools of Asunción, and the “cooking in schools” modality, which will be applied throughout the interior. from the country.

The minister mentioned that the call for bids also offers the possibility that service provider companies can incorporate small and medium-sized businesses as subcontractors, as well as the horticulture production of Peasant Family Agriculture.

He recalled that in this first phase, it is planned to provide breakfast, lunch and snacks to approximately 450,000 children throughout the country, in 77 prioritized territories. The minister assured that the control of the service will be rigorous, with the participation of the departmental governors, the Ministry of Social Development, the Comptroller’s Office and citizens in general through an application that will be launched soon by Mitic.
