Minister of Labor affirms
He head of the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE), Daniel Maurateagain stated that the minimum wage (currently S/ 1,025) could increase in the second half of 2024, if the economy continues to grow.
«It is important that the economy is good, and it must be that way, as well as income, which, on average, grew by 100 soles. So, it has grown, and that is good news, and the minimum vital remuneration could be from the second semester, at a good time, if we continue to grow,” declared in a press conference.
Maurate pointed out that this measure must be “rational” and “technical” so that informality “not be affected.”

Last May, the senior official also indicated that this possibility could be materialized in said period.
«We are now coming out of the recession. In January we reached 1.3% GDP growth and, in February, 2.8%. The Minister of Economy calculates that in the second half of this year we can see if the economy has strengthened, enough to discuss and talk about the increase in the minimum wage. That is the moment when we can evaluate»Maurate said in conversation with TV Perú.
«God willing that we can increase the minimum wage this year, and that is our greatest wish, but a lot depends on the economic issue and also on whether there is investment. “The main reason why we entered a recession in 2023 is because private investment fell.”he added.
