The Minister of the Environment, Juan Carlos Castro, highlights the great potential to promote sustainable development in the country
He Peru is home to exceptional biodiversity, placing it among the countries with the greatest diversity of flora and fauna worldwide. This natural wealth not only represents an inestimable heritage, but is also an essential engine for the national economy.
According to Juan Carlos Castro, head of the Ministry of the Environment (Minam), the biodiversity in Peru contributes to the 3.3% to gross domestic product (GDP)which represents approximately $13 billion in revenue. This figure demonstrates the immense potential of biodiversity to promote sustainable development in the country.
Thus, the 5th Festival of Biological Diversitywhich is carried out to this day in the Acoustic Shell of the Campo de Marte in Limademonstrates Peru’s commitment to the sustainable use of its biodiversity.
In this event, more than 150 sustainable producers and businesses They exhibit products made with raw materials from Peruvian biodiversity, generating environmental, social and economic benefits in various regions of the country.

The festival features a wide variety of products, ranging from fine crafts and clothing with designs inspired by emblematic species of the country, to a large food selection made with ingredients natural and sustainable.
Likewise, this event is free and open access for the whole family. In addition to the products available at the festival, there are informative and educational modules with recreational activities designed to convey messages about the importance of conserve biodiversityaimed at children, young people and adults.
The Government established the Multisectoral Commission for Sustainable Public Procurementwhich will be attached to the Ministry of the Environment (Minam) and will have the responsibility of preparing a technical report that includes the proposal of the National Action Plan for Sustainable Public Procurementas well as recommendations directed to the relevant entities to develop the necessary technical agreements and operational mechanisms.
This work team is temporary in nature and will be active for 18 months from its establishment. The Vice Minister of Environmental Management, Edgar Martín Romero La Puentewill lead this group.
