The Prosecutor’s Office announced the separation of the case involving Miguel Crispi (RD), head of the second floor advisors of La Moneda, from other aspects of the Living Democracy case.
The case originated from a complaint filed by deputies of the Republican Party, which also includes the former Minister of Social Development, Giorgio Jackson (RD), and the head of the Budget Directorate (Dipres), Javiera Martínez (RD). .
The measure of separation of the case regarding Crispi occurs in a context of new criticism coming from former seremi Carlos Contreras, who, from prison, accused the advisor of not properly informing President Gabriel Boric about the Democracia Viva case. Furthermore, it coincides with the aforementioned advisor’s return to work after his vacation period.
Upon his return, Miguel Crispi will not only have to face political criticism, but he is also summoned to testify as a defendant before prosecutor Cristián Aguilar, which would be set for this Wednesday, February 21.
Crispi’s defense points out that the Prosecutor’s Office’s decision to separate the case is due to the fact that there is no direct relationship with the foundations involved.
As stated ThirdDuring his vacation, Crispi maintained contact with his lawyer, Guillermo Chahuán, who was aware of the possible summons of the advisor as a defendant at the end of February, along with Jackson and Martínez.
The appearance is expected to be this Wednesday, although it was later indicated that it could be Thursday or Friday of this week. Tomorrow, Tuesday, the precautionary measures of Contreras and the leader of the Democracia Viva foundation, Daniel Andrade (RD), both in prison due to the case, will be reviewed.
“Nothing new to add”
The truth is that Carlos Contreras’ statements have revived scrutiny of Miguel Crispi, raising questions about how much he really knew and whether he informed the President before the public explosion of the case in June of last year.
For his part, Crispi, who already made a statement before the investigative commission of the Covenants case in the Chamber of Deputies, has maintained that he only learned about it through rumors days before the publication of the case in the media. Meanwhile, the Government insists that President Boric found out on the same day of the disclosure by the Antogafastino media. Timeline.
Despite the political tensions and accusations, those who have spoken with Crispi assure that he remains calm, and some even interpret Contreras’ statements as beneficial for his defense.
Given these circumstances, the Government Minister Spokesperson, Camila Vallejo, reaffirmed the Executive’s position, emphasizing that Crispi’s continuity in his position is an exclusive decision of President Boric.
Minister Vallejo stressed that the hearings were foreseeable in the development of the investigation, but the final result remains in the hands of justice and the lawyers of those involved.
“The truth is that we are not going to add anything new, because there is nothing new to add. The second floor advisor is today with his respective lawyer. There is an investigation, there are hearings, as in any judicial process. And it makes no sense to respond every once in a while to something that is basically the same situation, as happens with déjà vu,” said the Secretary of State.
The president of the Democratic Revolution party (RD), Diego Vela, referred to Miguel Crispi’s situation and his summons to testify. Given this, he highlighted that his party has offered to provide the background information and that there will be no room for “corruption or impunity,” considering that the investigation is advancing.
