Microsoft will stop updating Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2

MADRID (Portaltic/EP) – Microsoft has announced that it will stop supporting some editions of Windows 11 21H2 and Windows 11 22H2 on October 8, as they will no longer receive fixes or patches and will be automatically updated to the most current option, Windows 11 23H2.

The company began rolling out Windows 11 update 23H2 in late October 2023, releasing it as a cumulative build that brought together features and improvements to Teams and app management and Copilot deployment for Windows.

Users of devices compatible with this version were able to update their OS manually since November, through the Settings section as this version was being implemented, although the firm announced changes to this update process in February. With these changes, it forced the installation of the latest version available on eligible computers.

This will soon be coming to the Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 11 21H2, as well as Windows 11 22H2 for Home and Pro, which will no longer be supported as of October 8, 2024, as Microsoft recently announced.

In this regard, Microsoft has announced that the next security update for October 2024, which will be released on that day, will be the last one available for these editions and that, after this date, devices running them will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing patches against the most recent threats.

In this regard, he pointed out that to maintain protection on these devices, Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update for devices to version 23H2 of Windows 11 Home and Pro that are not managed by IT teams. With this, it will implement “fundamental” security updates for the security and state of the ecosystem.
