THE MAN WHO WON $200,000 USING HIS CHILDREN’S BIRTHDAY

James Allen, 63, was lucky thanks to his children. The Commerce Township, Michigan, man won $200,000 in the Dec. 30 Powerball lottery drawing.

He bought the lucky ticket on December 28 in Auburn Hills, Michigan and, like a cabal, chose the date of his children’s birthdays. On the day of the drawing she matched four of the winning digits, which in the third level of the game award $50, but her prize was quadrupled because she had the Power Play option and it was 4x.

He initially thought he had won $50,000, but thanks to the “Power Play” part of the game, his prize was multiplied by four. “I checked my ticket and went to bed thinking I won $50,000 because I forgot about the Power Play add-on game,” Allen told the Michigan Lottery website.

“When I woke up in the morning, I checked again and realized that I had actually won $200,000,” added excitedly the 60-year-old, who will use the money to pay off debts.

The “Power Play” option can be added, for an additional dollar, to any game line in Powerball. This allows you to multiply any prize other than the jackpot, up to a maximum win of $2 million.

The winning Powerball numbers on Saturday, December 30th were: 10, 11, 26, 27, 34 and the red Powerball 7. The Power Play was 4x. James Allen matched 4 numbers: 10, 11, 26, 27 and the red ball, which was 7.

WHY PLAY WITH BIRTHDAY DATES?

James Allen indicated that he always uses his children’s birthday numbers to play the lottery. “Every time I play Powerball, I pick my kids’ birthdays,” Allen told the Michigan Lottery.

This is a strategy followed by many players, Michigan Lottery spokesman Jake Harris told FOX Business.

“Many players play with specific sets of numbers because those numbers have special meaning to them,” he pointed out.
