Michaël Randrianirina – Patrick Rakotomamonjy: War declared between two colonels

The rag burns between the two brothers in arms who bear the same rank.

Second run in the space of ten months for Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy. In a video published on Sunday night, the now former director of the Office of Grievances at the Presidency of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar announced that he has once again chosen to leave his home and hide, because he fears for his life and for his person. But this time, the threat does not come from Ravatomanga nor from the actors of the old regime, but rather from his former comrades in struggle within the Refoundation regime. He particularly addressed the current PRRM, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, denouncing harassment against him, and calling on the latter to take his responsibilities.

According to him, this is the fourth time, since Christmas 2025, that he has been targeted by an investigation. He would be accused in particular of fomenting a coup d’état against the current regime. A general officer of the gendarmerie would have informed him of the existence of a plan to arrest him. Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy threatens to do ampamoaka on cases of corruption. “I will never agree to work with the mafia,” he insisted, while warning that, for the moment, he is refraining from publishing the names and files. “Among colonels, we don’t fear each other,” he said. A barely veiled threat addressed to the current strong man of the country. He also took advantage of this opportunity to call on his brothers in arms, in particular the members of the COSOFAM office, to be ready to fight against corruption, or against the corrupters (it depends).

Succession of events. And the response was not long in coming. The day after the publication of the video of Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina responded, while explaining however that there is no arrest warrant against his former director of the Office of Grievances. In any case, the head of state is not aware of the existence of this arrest warrant. The question is therefore whether the former technical director of HOMI was manipulated by his informants. But in front of the press, the tenant of Iavoloha called Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy to order, citing the discipline prohibiting any soldier from speaking in public, unless he has formal authorization.

Responding to Colonel Patrick’s statement, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina declared that “in politics, there is no chance. Everything is calculated.” And to add at the same time that the succession of events of recent times, in particular the reception of former president Andry Rajoelina in Eswatini, is not the result of chance. Is this a way of accusing his brother-in-arms of being in cahoots with the president in exile? In any case, these two declarations confirm that war has now been declared between the two major figures of the movement which led to the overthrow of the old regime.
