The Mexican Government foresees at least five heat waves between March and July, and due to these high temperatures, 95 cases associated with health damage and one death have already been recorded, as reported this Wednesday by the Ministry of Health (SSa).
“From March 17 to April 6, 95 cases associated with health damage due to high temperatures have been recorded, of which 63 are due to heat stroke, 26 due to dehydration and six due to burns. “At the moment, one death has been recorded due to heat stroke,” the federal agency said in a statement.
The information is released after the country’s capital, Mexico City, reached a record maximum temperature of 34.2 degrees on April 15, exceeding the 33.9 degrees recorded in 1998, according to the National Meteorological Service. (SMN).
Given the high temperatures, the SSa recommended that the population take precautions to prevent health damage such as heat stroke and sunburn.
He explained that heat stroke is a consequence of excessive exposure to sunlight or having been in a very hot place.
This situation, also known as heat stroke, causes symptoms such as cold or clammy skin, intense sweating, fainting or dizziness, tiredness, weak or fast pulse, low blood pressure, muscle cramps, nausea and headache.
Likewise, specialists asked to avoid exposing yourself to the sun’s rays, especially between 11 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, when the highest solar radiation is recorded.
However, they said that if necessary, the person should stay hydrated, wear light clothing and wear a hat or cap.
They also indicated the importance of avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, staying in cool places, hydrating with plain drinking water, consuming fruits and vegetables, and not consuming alcoholic beverages or drinks with high sugar content because they cause dehydration.
They also recommended the use of sunscreen with sun protection factor 50 on exposed areas of the body, to avoid skin lesions that cause pain or burning, as well as skin redness, which later takes on a bronze color and can peel off.
Finally, they emphasized the importance of constant hand washing with soap and water and proper preservation of food to avoid decomposition.
