Within the framework of Photography Month and the exhibition “Ideologies of women and the territory. Photographers from Chile and Mexico”, Centro Cultural La Moneda invites you to participate in a meeting in which there will be a discussion about how, through photographic art, cultural bridges are built that connect territories and share common imaginaries.
After the conversation, there will be a visit to the exhibition led by the artists and curator.
Participants:
Liu Marino | Filmmaker and photographer. She studied Photography Direction at the International School of Film and TV of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV) in Cuba. She has developed her career in Havana, Berlin, Rome and Santiago, and has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions in various cities, including Nice, Beijing, Bologna, Lisbon, Reykjavik, Nanjing, and Santiago.
Mariana Matthews | Lives and works in Valdivia, Chile. As a child, she moved with her family to live in the United States. Between 1964 and 1969, she studied at the American University in Washington DC, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts. Between 1969 and 1970, she studied photography at the University of Ohio and returned to Chile in 1976. As part of her specialization in photography and the management of photographic collections, she has taken various courses during the 1990s, including the Master Class with Mary Allen Mark at the Rockport Photographic Workshops, Oaxaca, Mexico (1998).
María Cristina Alemparte Versluys | Photographer and curator, she graduated from the School of Fine Arts of the University of Chile with studies in Cinematography Direction. She has worked as a professional photographer since 1985 to the present, publishing her work in various media outlets, especially those dedicated to art and architecture. She has also created and executed editorial projects—as an author and photo editor—related to the life and work of artists and poets, such as Las Casas y Cosas de Pablo Neruda, Federico Assler, Francisco Smythe, among others.
Javiera Bagnara | Graduate in History with a minor in Political Sciences from PUCV and a Master in Arts from PUC. She currently works as Coordinator of National and Regional Plans for the Executive Secretariat of Visual Arts of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. She was Programming Coordinator of the National Center for Contemporary Art in Cerrillos and has worked in different cultural centers and spaces. In parallel, she conducts research in contemporary art, curatorships and since 2018 she has been a professor at the Alberto Hurtado University.
